John Rackham known as "Calico Jack" operated during the Golden Age of Piracy between the Bahamas and Cuba in the early 18th century.
Calico Jack Rackham's ship the Revenge, he is credited as the creator of the distinctive black flag with a skull and crossbones, the Jolly Roger.
Calico Jack is associated with Anne Bonny, his lover and Mary Read.
The two female crew members dressed as men and fought alongside Jack and his crew, becoming legendary figures in their own right.
In his 37th year Jack Rackham was executed at Deadman’s Cay near Port Royal, Jamaica.
